Power of 100 group slates meeting

The newly formed women’s movement Power of 100-Red River Valley has planned its second meeting for Jan. 14 at Hilton Garden Inn in Fargo.
Registration starts at 5:30 p.m., the charity selection process begins at 6:30 p.m. and voting starts at 7 p.m. Charity nomination forms need to be turned in prior to the event.
The idea behind Power of 100-Red River Valley is that 100 women get together four times a year and each donate $100 to a local nonprofit organization the group has voted to support. Group members nominate the charities and then write checks directly to the organization that receives the most votes. Members can also form teams to split their annual $400 donation and share their votes.
Power of 100-Red River Valley has 147 giving units – close to 200 people including team members. The group raised $14,700 in October for Inspire Innovation Lab in Moorhead, which focuses on STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) development and education for students, teachers and the community.
The group does not profit from the fundraising, said Christy Dauer of West Fargo, one of the movement’s organizers.
Dakota Medical Foundation has offered to match up to $4,000 of the group’s January donation on Feb. 11, if the selected charity is on their Giving Hearts Day list.
The Hilton has donated the meeting space and appetizers for Jan. 14.
