WEST FARGO – Next week, local scavengers who love to find someone’s else’s garbage and turn it into a treasure will be able to clean up along the streets of West Fargo during the annual Cleanup Week scheduled May 2-6.

Cleanup Week in West Fargo will be held in conjunction with the cities of Fargo, Moorhead and Dilworth. Items large and small can be placed on the curb for pickup, while the city has extra trucks ready to pick up any leftover waste.

West Fargo Sanitation Manager Tom Clark said in 2015, an additional 160 tons of rubbage was picked up during Cleanup Week.

“The total amount of garbage we picked up in 2015, during the one week alone was 223.59 tons and that was up about 10 tons from the year before,” Clark said. “It keeps growing by about 10 tons per year.”

Items except yard waste, electronics and hazardous chemicals can be picked up during Cleanup Week.

Hazardous chemicals must go to the Fargo Hazardous Waste Facility, including televisions and computer monitors.

Garbage can also be dropped off at West Fargo’s transfer station at 1620 Main Ave. W., which is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and on Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

“So if they feel so inclined to bring their garbage, we’d just love them to death,” Clark said.

Reusable items such as appliances, furniture or building materials that can be recycled can be donated to the ReStore in Moorhead.

Reusable health care items such as wheelchairs, scooters and other health care materials may be donated to HERO. Visit www.HEROFargo.org for more information.
