FARGO - The Fargo School District has named three new elementary school principals for the 2017-18 school year.
All three start July 1 to replace people retiring in June.
Cathy Selberg will lead Washington Elementary School, taking over from Dana Carlson. Selberg graduated from Fargo North High School and Minnesota State University Moorhead, earning a bachelor's degree in elementary education and a master's in education and administrative credentials. She also holds a North Dakota middle-level endorsement and K-12 reading credential.
She has been assistant principal at Carl Ben Eielson Middle School since 2014. She started with the school district in 1989, serving as a kindergarten through sixth-grade learning disabilities teacher, and later as an elementary-level teacher, a language arts teacher specialist, and a middle school reading intervention instructor.
Selberg also is an adjunct instructor at MSUM and North Dakota State University.
Karrie Rage will lead Kennedy Elementary School, taking over from Jerry Hanson. Rage is an alumna of the University of North Dakota, where she earned a bachelor's degree in education, and MSUM, where she earned a master's in education and administrative and special education director credentials.
She has been a special education services coordinator for the district since 2003 and administered the Early Childhood Special Education program since 2013.
She joined the school district in 1993 as a high school special education teacher, serving at both South and North high schools. She began her career in 1987 teaching special education at Sisseton (S.D.) High School.
Leandra Ostrom will lead Horace Mann-Roosevelt Elementary School, taking over from Kim Colwell. Ostrom is a graduate of Fargo North and MSUM. At MSUM, she earned bachelor's degrees in elementary education and special education, a master's in curriculum and instruction, and an administration credential.
She has been a student performance strategist at Centennial Elementary School since 2015 and was an administrative intern for three years prior to that. She joined the district in 2001 as a special education teacher at Washington Elementary School. Ostrom later taught special education at Fargo North and Longfellow Elementary School, where she served until 2004. She then served as a special education teacher at Fargo North High School and Longfellow Elementary School. She became a special education resource teacher at Centennial in 2007. She began her career teaching elementary school in New Zealand in 1998.
