Moorhead School Board candidate filing opens Tuesday
MOORHEAD - Candidates can start filing for a spot on the Moorhead School Board starting Tuesday. Filing closes at 5 p.m. Aug. 15.
In the Nov. 7 special election, one resident will be elected to a one-year term to complete an unexpired board term.
Former School Board member Laurie Johnson resigned from the board in late 2016, halfway through her four-year term, to move to the Washington, D.C. area. The board voted Jan. 9 to appoint former board member Cindy Fagerlie to fill the post until the November election.
There is a $2 filing fee. Affidavits of candidacy will be available from the school district clerk in the superintendent's office at Probstfield Center for Education, 2410 14th St. S.
Requirements to run for the board include:
• Be at least 21 years old when the term of office begins.
• Reside in the district for at least 30 days prior to the election.
• Eligible voter.
• Not being registered as a convicted sex offender.
Candidates can have no other affidavit on file for any other office in the Nov. 7 election.
The board is made up of seven residents of Independent School District 152. Unless the election is to fill out an unexpired term, they are elected at-large to four-year terms.
In addition to attending board meetings twice a month, members serve as liaisons to various district and non-district committees.
Board members are paid $800 per month.
