Duluth Trading Co. is set to open its first location in North Dakota.
Duluth Trading Co. will open on Thursday, March 22, at 2261 Rustad Lane East in West Fargo. The ribbon cutting will be at 9 a.m., and Duluth Trading Co. will be working with professional lumberjacks from DLW Timberworks who will perform at free public shows at 10:30 am and noon as part of the opening.
West Fargo Duluth Trading Co. manager Neil Flick said building at this location in West Fargo provided a unique shopping experience.
"We are excited to invite customers into our first Duluth store in North Dakota," Flick said. "We chose West Fargo because of our strong customer base, which we're able to track through online and catalog orders."
This will be the 33rd new store for the company which focuses on casual wear, workwear and accessories. The space will be 16,000-square feet, and the company expects to hire 35 to 40 employees in the new location.
Flick said this location will offer past popular apparel but will also incorporate design elements from the local area and historical images tied to North Dakota. He said the location will also have a "Builder's Lounge" which will be like a hospitality area where shoppers can relax and enjoy complimentary coffee.
"The modern, self-reliant American lifestyle that is the hallmark of the Duluth Trading brand is clearly evident in this region so coming to North Dakota was a natural next step," Flick said.
According to the company's website, Duluth Trading Co. was started by two brothers in 1989, with the invention of "Bucket Boss" - a canvas tool organizer that fit on a drywall bucket and could easily be transported. The brothers eventually created a catalog of portable products and opened a storefront in Duluth, Minn. The business expanded to include work clothing, and the company's headquarters is now located in Belleville, Wis., with stores scattered across the upper Midwest.
West Fargo mayor Rich Mattern said the West Fargo Planning and Zoning Committee approved an application for the company's new store in a meeting in late 2017 and construction began shortly afterward.
"The West Fargo location offers the innovative and problem-solving apparel and gear that our customers expect," Flick said. "We look forward to welcoming our brand fans and new customers to experience first-hand the high-quality, solution-based casual wear, workwear and accessories for men and women who lead a hands-on lifestyle and who value a job well-done."
