The North Dakota League of Cities is hosting its annual "If I Were Mayor" essay contest. The contest is open to North Dakota third and seventh-grade students and is designed to encourage North Dakota children to think about civic leadership and public service.
Each one-page essay entry should answer the following questions:
• Why is your city great? What makes it special?
• What would you do to improve your city if you were mayor?
Any third or seventh grade North Dakota student may submit only one essay. Entries must be the original work of a student, typed and sent to the North Dakota League of Cities office or emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org no later than Friday, March 15.

The League of Cities will announce the contest winners during City Government Week in April. Each winner will receive $150 and have their essay featured in the League of Cities' magazine, CITYscan.
