On Tuesday, Feb. 19, 1974, West Fargo voters approved a $70,000 bond issue as part of the financing for a new West Fargo Library with a margin of 430 "yes" votes to 178 "no" votes for a 70 percent approval. A 60 percent majority was required for passage. Passage of the bond issue activated a $78,000 Federal grant, making the construction of a new 5,000 square foot library next to the West Fargo Police Department a reality.
After 39 years with the West Fargo School District, 20 as Superintendent, Marvin Leidal announced that he would retire effective June 30, 1999. He had recently been named North Dakota's 1999 Superintendent of the Year. His only reason was "It's time." Another longtime faculty member, Jack Boe, chose the same Board meeting to announce his resignation explaining that 41 years teaching was, "long enough." Their combined 80 years with the West Fargo with the District will likely never be never be duplicated.
