In mid-March of 1989 the Armed Services Center located at Hector Airport was dedicated as the Sgt. David F. Johnson Armed Services Center after David Johnson, a 1969 graduate of West Fargo High School and a 1969 casualty of the Vietnam war.
"With his death came David's third Purple Heart, a Bronze Star with oak leaf cluster given for heroism and valor, and the Silver Star awarded for gallantry." A framed photo of Johnson and a collection of his medals were housed in a permanent display in the Center.
The 2009 state boys swim meet looked to be a clash of the titans. Minot was going for their 11th straight championship. The Packers hoped to keep their undefeated season intact. The final score was West Fargo 428, 142 points ahead of second place Mandan. Minot finished in fourth. The Packers time in the 200 medley relay not only broke the school record; it broke the 9-year-old state record. They also placed a school record nine swimmers on the all-state first team.
