WEST FARGO — A first-grade boy riding a bike near L.E. Berger Elementary School here was struck by a vehicle shortly after noon today, according to West Fargo school officials and police.
The boy, who is not being identified, was hauled away in an ambulance, school officials said. The boy's condition has not been reported. The driver of the vehicle was not injured, police said. The boy was hit while in the crosswalk at the intersection of Fourth Avenue East and Seventh Street. It's directly west of the West Fargo Police Department. It's the second time in recent years that a child was struck by a car near L.E. Berger school.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol was called in to assist in the crash investigation, police said. The West Fargo Police Department is continuing to interview witnesses to the crash.
The West Fargo Police Department would like to remind the driving public that summer school is in session, drivers should still be aware near school zones, and summer-time bicycle and pedestrian traffic has increased.
