WEST FARGO — The North Dakota Highway Patrol says charges won't be filed against the driver of an SUV they say hit a boy riding a bike across the street near West Fargo's L.E. Berger Elementary School, Wednesday, June 12.
While making a left turn from Fourth Avenue South to head south on Seventh Street East, a white Ford Explorer driven by 66-year-old Larry Wright hit Donte Bravecrow, 8, who was riding a bike through a crosswalk, the Highway Patrol said in a Monday news release.
Wright had yielded to eastbound traffic on Fourth Avenue South before taking a left turn, officials said. Bravecrow, who was stopped on the southwest corner of the intersection, then rode his bike in front of the SUV, which struck him at around 5 mph and trapped Bravecrow and his bike beneath the vehicle, according to the Highway Patrol.
Bravecrow suffered severe but non-life-threatening injuries to his head and lower body in the crash. According to authorities, he was wearing a helmet.
