Sprinklers douse fire in West Fargo kindergarten center
WEST FARGO – A custodian at Clayton A. Lodoen Kindergarten Center reported a fire in the staff lounge Friday, Dec. 1, that was extinguished by the sprinkler system, according to a news release from a West Fargo official.
At 6:05 a.m., the West Fargo Fire Department was sent to 330 3rd Ave. E. on a report of a fire alarm activation.
Upon arrival, fire crews were met by the custodian and found that the sprinkler system had put out the fire in the lounge.
Crews overhauled the area to keep the flames from rekindling, and they ventilated the building.
The cause of the fire was ruled accidental. The specific cause was not released, but West Fargo Fire Chief Dan Fuller said they ruled out smoking and cooking.
The custodian, who was cleaning, was the only one in the area, and no children were at the center at the time of the fire, Fuller added.
Fire, smoke and water from the sprinkler system caused $20,000 worth of damage, the chief said.
