Train kills motorcyclist who crashed while crossing tracks in Williams County
EPPING, N.D. – A man who was trying to get a motorcycle off railroad tracks near here was struck and killed by a train Saturday night, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
The name of the victim, a 66-year-old from Epping, has not yet been released.
The crash happened about 11:30 p.m. on Williams County Road 8, 1.5 miles east of Epping.
The motorcyclist had been traveling west on County Road 8 when he crashed while trying to cross the tracks, the patrol said.
The rider was attempting to remove the motorcycle from the crossing, but it’s believed the front wheel was stuck between the track and a railroad tie, the patrol said.
The conductor and engineer of an eastbound train approaching the crossing saw the man trying to get the motorcycle off the tracks, the patrol said.
The train struck the man and the motorcycle, the patrol said. The man died at the scene.
