WEST FARGO — Authorities here arrested a 35-year-old following a chase that started in Mapleton, N.D., and ended with the man attempting to elude law enforcement by swimming across the Sheyenne River, according to a news release from the Cass County Sheriff's Department.

At 3:22 p.m. on Monday, May 27, deputies responded to a domestic disturbance in rural Mapleton and found the suspect, Mathew H. Walsh, of Mapleton, had already fled the scene.

West Fargo Police officers located Walsh, who again fled on his motorcycle and crashed near the Sheyenne River. Walsh then tried to swim across the river and was subsequently taken into custody.

Walsh was medically cleared before he was taken to Cass County Jail where he is being held on a charge of interfering with a 911 call.
