FESSENDEN, N.D. — A convicted sex offender is accused of sexually assaulting two teenage girls in central North Dakota.

Alexander Hugh Matson, 21, of Hurdsfield, N.D., is charged with two Class A felony counts of gross sexual imposition, according to documents filed on Monday, June 17, in Wells County District Court.

The first victim, 13, told authorities that she met Matson through a friend, and on the night of Oct. 14, 2018, she sneaked out of her house to meet with Matson.

The victim said Matson drove down gravel roads between Harvey, N.D., and Fessenden, N.D., and stopped at some point. She said Matson then began touching her and forced her to have sex, even though she told Matson to stop, court papers said.

She told authorities that Matson said he would send people after her if she told anyone about what happened, court papers said. Matson was 20 years old at the time of the alleged offense.

A few months later, authorities received a report of a 16-year-old victim who said Matson sexually assaulted her on a gravel road east of Harvey on Jan. 15, 2019, court papers show.

The second victim told authorities Matson picked her up from a friend’s house and drove down a gravel road. She said Matson told her he wanted to have sex, but she said no, court papers show.

Matson allegedly threatened to leave the victim out on the road if she did not have sex with him, court papers show. Police determined the temperature that night was minus 15 degrees.

The victim told authorities Matson drove her back to her friend’s house after sexually assaulting her, court papers said. She showed police text messages she received from Matson after the incident in which he apologized for what happened.

Court records do not list an attorney for Matson. He has a court hearing slated for Wednesday, June 19.

In a previous case, Matson pleaded guilty to felony charges of gross sexual imposition and solicitation of minors in connection with a sexual assault of a 13-year-old in 2016. Matson was 18 at the time of that offense.

In another case, Matson was charged with gross sexual imposition in connection with a sexual assault of a different 13-year-old.

In those two cases, Matson received a combined sentence of three years suspended and three years of supervised probation. He was also required to register as a sex offender.
