FARGO — A driver who hit a power pole in south Fargo early Thursday, July 4, was arrested after initially running away from the crash scene, Fargo police said.

Police responded to the crash shortly after 2 a.m. near 25th Street South and 17th Avenue South. The crash caused a power outage that lasted several hours for about 100 Xcel Energy customers.

Officers found the driver, 33-year-old Mohamed A. Mohamed of West Fargo, nearby, and he resisted arrest, police said. Mohamed had minor injuries from the crash.

Mohamed was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, DUI refusal, resisting arrest, duty upon striking fixture, and no insurance.

Part of 25th Street South was closed for about three hours because of fallen power lines on the road. Xcel Energy crews removed the lines, and the road is now open.
