Cass County deputy's gun among those stolen in West Fargo; internal investigation underway
WEST FARGO — Police here are offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in the theft of three guns, including one that belongs to a Cass County sheriff’s deputy.
Cass County Sheriff’s Sgt. Tim Briggeman said a duty pistol was taken from a deputy’s vehicle as part of a rash of break-ins currently under investigation by the West Fargo Police Department.
West Fargo Detective Craig Danielson said police are investigating 10 vehicle break-ins and one burglary in the Westport Beach and Eagle Run neighborhoods between Nov. 14 and Nov. 16, in which a total of three guns were taken: a shotgun, pistol and rifle.
“The Cass County Sheriff's Office is extremely disappointed in the fact that one of our duty pistols has been stolen,” Briggeman said.
Briggeman said no restrictions have been placed on the deputy at this time but an internal investigation is underway to determine whether any type of negligence contributed to the gun being stolen. Briggeman declined to name the deputy.
If the internal investigation finds any cause for disciplining the deputy, Briggeman said discipline could range from a verbal reprimand to more serious consequences.
Briggeman declined to say whether the gun was stolen from a personal vehicle or Cass County Sheriff’s Office vehicle.
Anyone with information about the stolen guns is asked to call the West Fargo Police Department at (701) 433-5500 or visit firstname.lastname@example.org.
