MANDAN, N.D. -- A 12-year-old boy reportedly got involved between a verbal dispute between his mother and a Mandan school bus driver Wednesday, Oct. 10, with the boy allegedly assaulting the 73-year-old driver, police said.

The bus driver was kicked a number of times in the chest area and had a cut to his chin, and blood on his lips and tongue, Mandan police Lt. Pat Haug said. He was not hospitalized.

The 12-year-old boy was cited for simple assault, disorderly conduct, tampering with or damaging a public service and criminal trespass, Haug said.

Mandan police forwarded the mother's case to the Morton County State's Attorney's Office. She faces charges of disorderly conduct, criminal trespass and tampering with or damaging a public service.

Haug said the confrontation began when the driver did not allow one of the woman’s children on the bus following an earlier incident Tuesday, Haug said

A surveillance camera on the bus recorded the assault, Haug said, but police will not be releasing the video due to the active investigation and charges pending against the mother.
