Moorhead, West Fargo schools to close early because of winter weather

MOORHEAD – A blast of wintry weather expected to create blizzard conditions is prompting Moorhead and West Fargo public schools to close early on Monday, Dec. 4.

In Moorhead, elementary schools will close at 1 p.m., high school at 1:45 p.m., and middle school campus at 2:15 p.m. All  afternoon, evening and night events have been cancelled.

The private Park Christian School dismissed classes at 1 p.m. All afternoon and evening classes were cancelled.

In West Fargo, elementary schools will close at 1 p.m.,  secondary schools at 2 p.m. There will be no late afternoon or evening classes or activities and no YMCA activities, the district announced.

Fargo schools has opted to hold classes through the end of the regular school day, with buses running their normal schedules. However, all afterschool and evening programming and activities are cancelled. Families of elementary-age children are urged to check with their afterschool care providers, i.e. YMCA and Fargo Youth Commission, for further information.

The St. John Paul II Catholic Schools Network will also run classes through the end of the day, with buses running at normal times, but there will be no evening activities, sports or other events, a spokeswoman said. Little Deacons will close at 3:30 p.m., and there will be no afterschool care at the elementary schools.

In addition, the Shanley Candlelight Christmas Concert, which was scheduled to start at 7 p.m. at Sts. Anne and Joachim Catholic Church, was also cancelled.

Oak Grove Lutheran School decided to hold classes through the end of the normal school day, however, all evening events were canceled, a spokeswoman said.
