West Fargo teen named Distinguished Young Woman of ND

WEST FARGO --  A West Fargo Sheyenne High School senior has been named the Distinguished Young Woman of North Dakota during a statewide scholarship program for high school girls.

Esofi Nunyi, the daughter of Dorin Ngwe, competed against three other finalists for the state honor and will now compete in the national finals in Mobile, Ala., in June.

She will represent the state at various public events in the coming year and serve as a role model for young teens by spreading the program’s message of “Be Your Best Self.” The program is designed to encourage self-esteem and excellence.

She won the honor in a program at the Trollwood School for Performing Arts last Sunday where the candidates were evaluated for scholastics, interview skills, talent, fitness and self-expression.

Nunyi won $550 in scholarships in the state event and could win more at the national competition. The nationwide program started in 1958 with a mission of empowering high school young women by providing scholarship opportunities, developing self-confide
