August 1999 brought a new event to the city of West Fargo. The first Taste of West Fargo took place at the large shelter in Elmwood Park and showcased food and beverages available. Twenty years later in August of 2019, Taste of West Fargo was alive and well at the same shelter in the same park. While some of the original participants, like Larson’s Super Valu, there were many new and exciting choices.
On Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, West Fargo Mayor Rich Mattern drove Fargo Mayor Dennis Walaker over the Veterans Boulevard overpass to mark its opening in a 1985 Pontiac Firebird with Commissioner Mark Simmons and City Administrator Jim Brownlee. Both cities, the state of North Dakota, and Federal government contributed to estimated $12 million project.
