West Fargo Packer football fans had something to celebrate on Thanksgiving in 1999. The Packers overcame a strong Minot team to win their second state championship in a row and third consecutive Eastern Dakota Conference title. The last defeat for the Packers was the state championship in 1997. The closed out the decade with a 24-0 record.
The front page of the November 19, 2014 Pioneer suggested that the Packer wrestling “season has potential to be historic.” Coach Kayle Dangerud had announced that this would be his last season. He went out on a high note. West Fargo had 5 state champions and 3 records. Freshman Jared Franek set a new record for matches won in a season at 51-0. Jordan Shearer won his sixth consecutive championship and earned the record for matches won in a career 259-21.
