WEST FARGO — Westside Elementary School here has canceled plans for a parade scheduled to take place Monday evening, March 23.
The school's staff announced on Westside's Facebook page that the parade planned for the neighborhood around the school was intended as a way to lift the spirits of children in the area and to give people a chance to get outside and have fun.
Paradegoers were encouraged via the invitation on Facebook to practice social distancing while enjoying the parade as a response to concerns about the coronavirus.
The cancellation was made on the school's Facebook page Monday morning by Principal Christopher Kalsow.
"Due to concerns that we would not be modeling the CDC’s recommendations for social distancing, our teacher parade for this evening has been cancelled," Kalsow wrote.
"Some of our students and other school’s students live in more densely populated areas where families would be encouraged to be closer than the recommended six feet apart. However, we are preparing an online parade through the Westside Elementary Facebook Page for you all to watch!" Kalsow added.
