WEST FARGO — The city of West Fargo has hired Matthew Andvik to replace longtime public works director Chris Brungardt.
Brungardt resigned in September after the firing of assistant director Ryan James who's under a criminal investigation. James was fired Sept. 16 by Brungardt and City Administrator Tina Fisk after the two met with him to discuss his lack of professionalism and leadership, according to a city memo released in October.
The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation was handling the investigation into James to avoid any conflict of interest, and Melissa Richard, city of West Fargo spokeswoman, said she could not specify what type of potential crimes were under investigation.
As of Wednesday, Jan. 8, the city had not yet received an update on the investigation, Richard said. Attempts to reach James by phone Wednesday were unsuccessful.
Andvik worked for 17 years in the city of Fargo's water department and most recently as Fargo's services manager. As services manager, Andvik supervised 65 employees in the street, mains and hydrants departments and oversaw a $9.1 million budget. He also worked as a dispatcher and equipment operator for the city of Moorhead.
