Center Street in West Fargo is fully closed from from Seventh Avenue Northeast to 12th Avenue Northeast after a driver ignored the partial closure and struck a worker in the area.
City Spokesperson Melissa Richard said the southbound lanes were closed for construction Monday morning while crews began work on a concrete heave. When a southbound driver ignored the detour and drove in the northbound lane through the construction zone, a worker stepped out in an effort to stop the vehicle and prevent a possible head-on crash.
"The vehicle continued on without stopping," Richard said.
The worker was not injured but the incident was reported to West Fargo Police, who are investigating.
Richard said the road will now be fully closed through Thursday, Aug. 29., for worker safety.
All traffic will be detoured to Ninth Street Northeast except on Tuesday when Ninth Street north of Main Avenue will be closed for part of the day.
Starting at 7 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 27, Ninth Street will close from Main Avenue West to Eighth Avenue Northwest for BNSF Railway to complete repairs to a railroad crossing south of Seventh Avenue Northwest. Local traffic will be able to access businesses within the closure. All other traffic will need to use Eighth Avenue to 26th Street Northwest or 21st Street Northwest to Main Avenue. The road is anticipated to reopen Tuesday afternoon.
Motorists in this area should plan for delays and congestion during the morning and evening commutes and adjust their travel plans accordingly, Richard said.
