Local athletes win, set records at state weightlifting meet

West Fargo's Breanna Gores and West Fargo Sheyenne's Kayla Sailer and Kallie Zander set new state records in their respective weight classes at the North Dakota High School Weightlifting Championships on Saturday, Feb. 24, in Kindred.

Gores, in the 69-kilogram varsity girls weight class, took first with a combined total of 107 by lifting a 46 in snatch and 61 in clean and jerk, all new state records. Sailer, in the 75-plus kilogram junior varsity girls weight class, won with a total of 112 by lifting a 51 in snatch and 61 in clean and jerk, all new state records.

Athletes from West Fargo took the top two spots in the junior varsity boys category in the 69 kilogram class. Caleb Jamieson, who qualified for the 2018 National Youth Championships which will be in June in the 16-17 age group, won with a total of 151. Jose Franssen was second with a total of 117.

From Sheyenne, Javier Quiroz was first with a total of 139 in the 94 kilogram class in the varsity boys category while Bobby Chalifoux was first in the 94 kilogram class in the junior varsity boys category with a total of 144.

Zander had a total of 104 in the 90-plus kilogram class in the varsity girls category and set a state record with a 64 clean and jerk. Matthew Fischer was runner-up with a total of 111 in the 94-plus kilogram class in the junior varsity boys category.

From West Fargo, Isaiah Enzi had a total of 85 in the junior varsity boys 62-kilogram class. Olivia Arth had a total of 80 in the varsity girls category in the 90-kilogram class. Jada Kuchlong had a total of 170 in the 85-kilogram class in the varsity boys category.
