FARGO - The words "Too Beautiful for Earth" are etched in a memorial headstone that stands to mark Savanna LaFontaine-Greywind's final resting place.
The headstone was made by Dakota Monument Company with cooperation from her family and was placed in Sunset Memorial Gardens Tuesday, Aug. 21.
Dustin Anderson, outside sales representative with Dakota Monument who led the project, said he was out of the state when he heard about the incident and decided that something needed to be done to memorialize LaFontaine-Greywind.
"I knew it was something we had to do," Anderson said.
The headstone features LaFontaine-Greywind's picture and between her dates of birth and death is an engraving of a dreamcatcher that matched a tattoo she had on her leg.
Anderson said he met with LaFontaine-Greywind's family several times to discuss what can be done for her headstone.
"We wanted to keep it meaningful, simple yet beautiful without getting too cluttered," Anderson said.
LaFontaine-Greywind, 22, was eight months pregnant when she disappeared more than a year ago and was later found dead. Her baby was removed via a crude cesarean section but found alive. Two suspects were charged in her death, one of whom is serving a life sentence. The trial for the second suspect is set to begin in September.
