As students and staff returned to school this week in West Fargo, they were greeted by some changes.
The district's long-awaited STEM Center, focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, for 160 sixth and seventh graders, opened in the Lodoen Education Center at 109 3rd St. E., in classrooms where the Community High School and Adult Education classes used to be held. Tabitha Joyce is the new interim principal for the Center. In addition, about 90 eighth-graders will be taking part in the STEM program at the Sheyenne Ninth Grade Center this year.
The Community High School and Adult Education programs have been moved into the Leidal Education Center. For some staff members who taught in the district back when the programs were located in the building originally, it was a little like coming back home. Tom Gravel, beginning his second year as principal of the Community High School, is excited about the move.
Parents got a chance to tour the new Osgood Kindergarten Center during Back to School Night on Tuesday, August 25. The center, which is West Fargo's second kindergarten facility, is located at 5550 44th Ave. S. Fargo.
Sixty-five new teachers attended training workshops scheduled on August 13 and 14. During professional workshops last week, staff was trained in on the district's new PowerSchool system, which will integrate student information such as attendence, scheduling, grading systems, all in one program.
Travel to and from school will be hampered by all the road construction projects going on for a while, however, the new Ninth Street Overpass will help speed up traffic routes between the Sheyenne Ninth Grade Center, Cheney Middle School, and West Fargo High School.
For new families transferring into the West Fargo School District, we welcome you to the comminity, and hope everyone has a great school year.
