It was a week of extremes for the West Fargo American Legion Baseball team.
After mustering just one hit in the first game of a July 2 doubleheader against Watertown, a 2-1 loss, the Patriots put up five runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to win the second game 12-0.
Dustin Mertz led the offensive attack with four RBIs, while Lance Oster drove in two runs while also throwing four no-hit innings to get the win on the mound. The Patriots finished the game with a 10-1 edge in hits.
But things would go South in a hurry the next time West Fargo took the field, as Fargo Post 2 blasted 24 hits en route to a 21-4 win at Young Field.
The offensive onslaught began early, with Fargo, scoring four runs on five hits in the first inning, with its entire offensive output coming with two outs.
After the Patriots answered with three runs in the bottom of the first, Cole Hage extended the Fargo lead with a three-run homer in the second inning. It was the first of two home runs Hage hit on the night and one of four Post 2 hit in the game.
