The Fighting Hawks will open the year Aug. 30-a Thursday-against Mississippi Valley State at the Alerus Center.

UND had previously announced two other non-conference games for the 2018 season: Washington and Sam Houston State.

UND is paying MVSU a $230,000 guarantee to come to Grand Forks, while the Fighting Hawks will get $550,000 for going to Washington the following week.

The $550,000 payout is UND's largest FBS guarantee haul, $100,000 more than the Fighting Hawks will get to travel to Utah to open the 2017 season.

North Dakota State is paying MVSU $240,000 to open the 2017 season at the Fargodome.
