Joe Pistorius knew he was close to scoring 1,000 career points. He wanted it sooner rather than later if only because he wanted the monkey off his back. Now the pressure is off.

Pistorius scored his 1,000th career point in West Fargo's 86-47 victory over Devils Lake on Saturday, Dec. 16, at West Fargo High School. Pistorius, a 6-foot-3 senior guard, led the Packers with a game-high 27 points.

"It's definitely an honor, but I've got to owe it all to my teammates I've had these past three years and the coaches that helped me all the way through it," Pistorius said. "I wouldn't have been able to do it without them."

In that win against Devils Lake, Pistorius made 9 of 13 shots and went 2-for-4 from 3-point range and 7-for-8 from the free-throw line. He also added five steals, four rebounds and three assists. Pistorius helped the Packers start the season 5-0 in the Eastern Dakota Conference before a game at Wahpeton on Tuesday, Dec. 19.

"It's a big moment for anybody that gets it," Pistorius said. "We're going to move on to the next goal and that's the (East Region) tournament."
