BISMARCK - While not in the round it had hoped for, the West Fargo boys basketball team was able to extend its season to the final day of the Class A state tournament.
The Packer defense held Wahpeton to just 16-of-51 shooting and coasted to a 70-45 in Friday's consolation round.
After a disappointing 78-61 opening-round loss to Bismarck Century ended their state championship hopes, the Packers were able to establish dominance from the start, as they took a 39-19 lead into halftime. Aside from holding the Huskies to 31 percent shooting, West Fargo also forced 25 turnovers.
Luke Lennon and Braxton Bruer had 12 points while Carter Birrenkott added 11. Hunter Lyman pulled down a team-best eight rebounds while Matt Miller recorded five assists.
The Packers will wrap the season against Bismarck Legacy in the fifth-place game at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
