PHENIX CITY, ALA. — With a split of its final two games, the West Fargo Rattlers completed a 3-5 run through the 10U World Series.
West Fargo pitched its first shutout of the tournament and 11th of the season on Aug. 6, as two pitchers combined on a three-hitter in a 2-0 victory over California. The defense did its part as well, committing just one error against a California team that didn't strike out once.
The Rattlers also took advantage of some sluggish California fielding, as both their runs came around on a two-out, fourth-inning error.
A slow start then doomed West Fargo in its final tournament game, a 12-0 loss to Ohio Valley.
After getting tagged for five runs in the first inning, the Rattlers surrendered seven in the second in what became a four-inning, run-rule loss.
The World Series run closed an excellent season for the Rattles, who went 44-9-1 in a summer that included a state championship.
