A young West Fargo girls swimming and diving team is hoping to make strides following a runner-up finish at the 2018 East Region Tournament.

The Packers, who finished fifth at the state tournament last fall, bring back strong depth in several events, most notably the 200-yard medley relay, where Tatum Brooks, Liv Hettinger and Hannah Potter all return following a second-place showing in the event at state.

Entering her sophomore season, Hettinger, a runner-up in two events at the 2017 state tournament, had two-more top-five finishes a year ago, highlighted by a third-place time of 1:00.10 in the 100 backstroke.

Potter, a freshman, will compete in breaststroke and freestyle races while Brooks will compete in numerous events during her junior year.

"We have athletes that like to compete and that makes things fun," second-year Packer coach Barb Fisher said. "We have swimmers that are willing and very capable of swimming other events at any time during the season. A good portion of this team has put in a lot of hard work in the offseason."
