The West Fargo Packatahnas took home some hardware from the Universal Dance Association’s Spirit of America regional dance competition on Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Minneapolis Convention Center.

The Packatahnas clinched one event and placed second in another as 46 teams from around the region gathered in downtown Minneapolis to participate in the competition.

West Fargo’s dance team, which is coached by Shayla Pennick, Madison Schommer, Sarah Parkhouse, Sydney Lund, Riley Huffman and Kristina Seehusen, earned the top spot in high kick and nabbed a second-place finish in jazz.

The junior varsity Packatahnas received identical placings, clinching high kick and securing the runner-up spot in jazz. Awards were given in 38 divisions at the Spirit of America Championship.

The Packatahnas will next compete on another big stage at the North Dakota Association of Dance and Drill state competition Jan. 24-25 at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks. The dance team clinched the top spot in two of three events at last year’s state championship, winning high kick and pom, and placing second in jazz.
