Two West Fargo High School graduates and current Mayville State athletes received top academic honors from the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA).
The NSAA released its 2020 winter and spring sports scholar-athletes list Tuesday, June 30, and former Packers baseball and softball standouts Marcus Wohl and Courtney Boll nabbed a spot. Student-athletes must achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale to be eligible.
Boll, who helped lift the Packers to their 21st state softball title as a senior in high school a year ago, was one of 47 scholar-athletes from Mayville State to receive honors. Pitcher and outfielder Boll, who was selected to compete in the Scheels Softball All-Star series last year, is a freshman at Mayville majoring in elementary education.
Wohl, who plays baseball at Mayville, was also named an Academic Scholar-Athlete. The 2015 West Fargo graduate Wohl, who was an All-Eastern Dakota Conference catcher, is majoring in business administration.
The NSAA recognized a total of 418 student-athletes for the 2020 spring academic season for their “outstanding achievement in the classroom and on the playing field,” according to the scholar-athletes press release.
Boll and Wohl’s time on the playing field was cut short this year after the NAIA canceled all spring sports in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.
