VALLEY CITY, N.D. — The Fargo Jets scored 22 runs in two games Saturday to power their way to the North Dakota Class A Senior Babe Ruth baseball state championship. The Jets earned an 8-3 victory and a 14-1 triumph in the championship game, defeating the West Fargo Vets both times.
The Jets needed to defeat the Vets twice to earn the state crown since West Fargo was unbeaten in the tournament heading into Saturday.
The Jets scored 14 runs on 16 hits in the title game, with all nine starters getting at least one hit. Dan Christianson went 3-for-4 with an RBI to pace Fargo. Dylan Tostenson added two hits, two runs and three RBIs. Mitch Runcorn chipped in two hits, two runs and two RBIs.
Matt Heupel had two hits for the Vets in the final game.
Austin Sparrow paced the Jets in the 8-3 victory, going 3-for-5 with an RBI. Calvin Clasen had three hits with three RBIs.
In the first game of the day, Mason Hoff went 1-for-3 with a triple and an RBI to pace the Vets.
The Jets have won five state championships in the past 10 years.
