After shooting to the near-top of the state tournament leaderboard, a pair of juniors hope to make further leaps during the 2019 boys golf season.

West Fargo Sheyenne's Blaze Ackerland and West Fargo's Zach Teske will lead the charge for their respective teams in 2019, after finishing tied for second with one-over-par scores at the 2018 Class A State Tournament.

Zeske is part of a veteran Packer group that also features seniors and top-20 state competitors Jackson Worner and Cade Pederson. Worner tied for ninth while Pederson tied for 18th to help the Packers place third as a team at last season's state tournament.

Not content to simply place high again, veteran Packer players believe they are in a good position to bring a third Class A title back to West Fargo.

"I feel like we actually have a legitimate shot this year at taking home the title," Worner said. "We have five guys that have been part of a state team for three years now. We have what it takes."

Sheyenne is hoping to build on its sixth-place state finish with a young roster that gained needed postseason experience a season ago.

Ackerland is one of four scorers to return from last year's state tournament, in which the Mustangs placed sixth. Also back are sophomores Layton Bartley and Benett Persoon and senior Adam Parkinson.

"We've got some young guys that aren't so young anymore," Ackerland said. "Expectation going into every season is to go into the second day of state with a chance to win the state tournament. That's always been our goal. Always will be."
