Moton sets NDSU shot put record
One of the most decorated throwers in North Dakota High School history, Akealy Moton is having no trouble translating her skills to the college level.
Moton, a 2017 West Fargo graduate and current redshirt freshman at North Dakota State University, set a Bison shot put record at the Husker Spring Invitational in Lincoln, Neb. on Saturday, finishing with a throw of 56 feet, 8.75 inches.
That distance was 2 feet, 5 inches further than the previous program record. As a result, Moton ended the weekend as the third-ranked thrower in the country.
A six-time state champion in high school, Moton also owns the state's all-time high school shot put record with a throw of 50 feet, 3 inches. This is her first year as a collegiate thrower after spending 2017-18 as a member of the basketball team at the University of North Dakota.
