A second-period rally wasn't enough to keep the season alive for the West Fargo boys hockey team Saturday.
Drew Sandy scored three third-period goals, leading Fargo South-Shanley to a 6-3 win over the Packers in a state qualifying game at the East Region Tournament Saturday afternoon.
Down 3-1 midway through the second period, West Fargo rallied to tie the game on goals by Tanner Nelson and Nathan Tangen.
But Sandy gave South-Shanley the lead back for good just 1:13 into the third period, before adding two empty-net goals in the final minute.
Following a 3-0 loss to Red River in the Region opener, the Packers moved into the qualifier with a 5-3 win over Grafton-Park River Saturday.
Jackson Prochnow broke a 3-3 tie with a goal with just 2:26 remaining, before Brayden Jacobson closed it out with an empty-netter.
Jacobson, who led West Fargo with 28 goals and 43 points, was named a first-team All-EDC selection. The Packers finish with a record of 9-15.
