GRAND FORKS -- Payless ShoeSource will close all U.S. stores this year, including several in North Dakota and Minnesota. Between March and May, the discount shoe store will close more than 2,000 locations, according to a Payless spokesperson. The company began liquidation sales at its stores on Sunday. North Dakota locations set for closure include the Columbia Mall location in Grand Forks and the West Acres location in Fargo.
A man working as part of a snow removal crew died early Saturday morning, Feb. 9, in Grand Forks. Grand Forks police were called to 600 High Plains Court for a report of an injury traffic crash around 3 a.m. on Saturday morning. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene. The name of the victim is being withheld so police can notify his family. Sgt. Kris Brown said it appeared the victim was standing on the bucket of the snow removal vehicle when he slipped off and fell under the wheels of the vehicle.
SAN DIEGO — Jessica and Troy Nelson, owners of Trojan Promotions in Grand Forks, died while on a trip to San Diego early Monday, Jan. 21. According to social media posts, they were killed when a 75-foot tree fell onto the house they were staying in. The San Diego Union-Tribune reported that the tree fell around 6:15 a.m., local time, killing two occupants.
