FARGO — A Moorhead man charged with murder in Fargo and jailed in Austin, Minn., is expected to be brought to the Cass County Jail sometime soon. Miguel Jay Cooley Sr., 44, waived extradition during a court hearing Monday, Oct. 22, in Mower County District Court. Cooley is accused of killing 20-year-old Gabriel Perez, who was shot early Sept. 23 while he sat on a curb outside of the McDonald’s restaurant on Main Avenue in Fargo.
FELTON, Minn. — The Clay County Sheriff’s Office has released the names of two men who were seriously injured Friday morning, Oct. 19, when the sugar beet trucks they were driving collided near Felton. The two were identified as Albert St. Martin Lopez, 50, of Moorhead, and Pedro Alonzo, 51, of Edinburg, Texas. Both were taken to Sanford Medical Center in Fargo with serious injuries. Their conditions as of Monday, Oct. 22, weren’t known.

FARGO — The driver of a party bus reported seeing black smoke coming from a commercial garage attached to Tax Lady, 3313 Fiechtner Dr., at about 6:45 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20. When crews arrived, they found flames and nobody was inside. There were no injuries, according to Fargo Fire Department Capt. Jason Gisselbeck. "It was a fairly extensive fire," he said. "A lot of heat, a lot of black smoke." Fire crews accessed the roof and used chainsaws to carve out holes to ventilate the building and lower the temperature for firefighters working inside.
FARGO — A missing elderly woman with Alzheimer's disease was safely found Friday, Oct. 19, shortly after police issued a call for the public's help in finding her.
Scheels, an all sports retailer based in Fargo, has announced plans to open its 29th store in April of 2021 in Colorado Springs, Colo. Scheels has 27 existing stores and plans to open stores in Eden Prairie, Minn., and The Colony, Texas, in 2020. The Eden Prairie store will replace an already existing store.
SANBORN, N.D. — Three motorists were hurt Thursday, Oct. 18, in a crash a mile south of Sanborn in Barnes County, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol. The crash happened about 8:20 a.m. at County Road 11 and County Road 22, an intersection with a stop sign. Glenn Handoko, 25, of Bismarck was driving north on County Road 11 when he failed to yield to a 2007 Hyundai Tucson heading east on County Road 22, the patrol said.
FARGO — A 42-year-old Fargo man was arrested as part of an underage sex sting this week. During the undercover operation, dubbed Guardian Angel, detectives posed as a female under the age of 18 and communicated with 39 people about exchanging money for sex acts, according to Fargo police.

FARGO — A car smashed into a building in Fargo about 9:40 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 17. The crash is under investigation, but police at the scene said it appeared the car swerved to avoid hitting another vehicle and ended up leaving the road and striking the corner of a building at 29 N. University Drive. No injuries were reported. The car was towed away minutes after the crash.
