MINOT, N.D. — Kaycee Herring scored the go-ahead goal with one second remaining in the game to lead West Fargo United to a 2-1 victory against Minot on Saturday in North Dakota girls hockey. All three of the game's goals were scored in the final five minutes of the third period. Madison Schoenberg scored for United at the 12 minutes, 4 seconds mark of the third. Kaya Shaw scored the equalizer for Minot at the 16:03 mark, prior to Herring's game-winner 56 seconds later. United improved to 12-10 overall, while Minot fell to 8-13.
WEST FARGO — Fargo South-Shanley scored both its goals in the first period on its way to a 2-1 win over West Fargo on Saturday in Eastern Dakota Conference boys hockey. South-Shanley (15-5, 12-4 EDC) has now won five consecutive games and 10 of its last 11. Drew Sandy struck first for the Bruins on assists from Alex Iverson and Grayson Wetch. Iverson found the back of the net on assists from Drew Sandy and Noah Lantz. South-Shanley goalie Zach Sandy tallied 35 saves.
WEST FARGO — The city of West Fargo is seeking input regarding the Sheyenne Street utilization project and special assessments. The comment period for the downtown Sheyenne Street urbanization project is open until Wednesday, Feb. 6. Residents can provide feedback on proposed improvements to Sheyenne Street from Maine Avenue to Eighth Avenue West. The goal of the project is to create a vibrant downtown space that encourages walking, events and to enhance economic development in the area.
GRAND FORKS — Grand Forks Central cruised to an 8-1 Eastern Dakota Conference boys hockey victory over West Fargo Sheyenne on Saturday to remain undefeated. Cole Hanson led the Knights with two goals. Cole Spicer and Cole Wigestrand each added one goal. The Knights (17-0, 13-0 EDC) had a 54-7 advantage in shots on goal. Jack Belisle found the back of the net for Sheyenne (4-14-1, 1-12-1). Goalie Cole Nissen tallied 46 saves.
VALLEY CITY, N.D. — West Fargo topped Valley City 56-52 in Eastern Dakota Conference girls basketball Saturday afternoon. McKenna Becher led the Packers with a game-high 24 points. Grace Scherr poured in 15 points to pace the Hi-Liners. West Fargo improved to 10-5 overall and 9-5 in the EDC. Valley City dropped to 8-9 overall and 7-8 in the EDC.
WEST FARGO — The West Fargo Police Department is now accepting applications for the spring session of the Citizens Police Academy. The session will run from Thursday, March 7 to Thursday, May 9. Classes will be from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Classes will provide an opportunity for citizens to see the operations of the West Fargo Police Department and the daily situations officers are faced with. Topics include: investigations, a night with the SWAT and BOMB teams, firearms, K-9, traffic stops, ride-alongs and more.
WEST FARGO — "Student Success: Social Media," a forum that aims to look at how social media impacts the lives of students today, will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13 at Cheney Middle School, 825 17th Ave. E. The event is free and open to the public. Presentations will be given by the juvenile court, West Fargo Police Department and a school counselor. Resources will be shared, allowing families to better understand the risks of the online world and best practices.
GRAND FORKS — Luke Lennon scored 32 points on 13-of-17 shooting to lead the West Fargo boys basketball team to an 89-63 Eastern Dakota Conference win over Grand Forks Central on Saturday. The Packers improved to 7-2 both overall and in the EDC. Central dropped to 2-8 overall and 1-7 in the EDC.
WEST FARGO — West Fargo United scored three goals in each of the first two periods en route to an 8-1 victory over Williston on Saturday in North Dakota girls hockey. Madison Schoenberg, Kaylee Anthony and Payton Hareland each netted two goals to lead United (7-7). Madison Hjelden tallied a goal and three assists, and Kaycee Herring added a goal. Goalie Madelyn Buchert recorded 11 saves.
WEST FARGO — West Fargo United earned a 4-1 victory over Minot on Friday in North Dakota girls hockey. Madison Hjelden scored two goals to pace United. Payton Hareland netted a power-play goal in the second period and Kaycee Herring added a goal in the third. Goalie Brooklyn Myrvik tallied 20 saves. Carson Abrahamson scored a power-play goal for Minot in the third. United improved to 6-7 overall, while Minot dropped to 5-5.
