GLYNDON, Minn. — Prosecutors have decided not to file criminal charges in connection with a 9-year-old Moorhead girl’s drowning at a swimming hole packed with nearly 180 kids on a June day. The prosecutors’ memo declining charges and a 60-page report on the drowning investigation were released by Clay County authorities Monday, Oct. 1, as a result of a public records request by The Forum.
FARGO – Yanick Tade was excited to leave for Birmingham, Ala., where he would attend a six-week summer program for aspiring health professionals. The 20-year-old and his father had collected his belongings from Concordia College, where he’ll be a sophomore this fall, and checked into a hotel the night before his flight. The morning of June 3, upon arriving at Fargo’s Hector International Airport, they discovered a mix-up with Tade’s plane ticket.

GLYNDON, MINN. -- A popular swimming pond near here where a young girl died this week is preparing to reopen on Saturday, June 30. The pond at Buffalo River State Park has been closed since 9-year-old Grace Bettie of Moorhead drowned late afternoon on Wednesday, June 27. She was there as a participant of the Moorhead Police Summer Youth Program.
SEBEKA, Minn. – A central Minnesota couple is feeling a little like new parents after a rare birth on their farm. A cow gave birth to quadruplet calves on Chuck and Deb Beldo’s beef cattle farm near Sebeka on May 24 – all tiny, but appearing to be healthy, so far. The couple is bottle feeding the calves, two females and two males, almost around the clock.
FARGO – News of a homicide at a north-side apartment building that’s been visited by police numerous times has rattled families, students and others living nearby. Fargo police arrived at the tan and brown, three-level building on the corner of Seventh Avenue North and 10th Street North shortly before 6:30 a.m. Friday, March 2.
MOORHEAD -- A head-on crash in zero visibility on Highway 75 south of Moorhead injured three people the morning of Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018. Two of the injured are children, according to Minnesota State Patrol Sgt. Jesse Grabow. Grabow, assisting with traffic control at the crash site, posted a photo on Twitter showing the poor conditions and the fact that the crashed vehicles weren’t even visible in the whiteout.
MOORHEAD – Icy conditions contributed to a crash involving a pickup truck and a flatbed semi on eastbound Interstate 94 outside Moorhead on Thursday afternoon, Dec. 21, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene at 12:18 p.m. The crash happened at mile marker 8, just east of the bridge over the Buffalo River.
FARGO – With the start of a new school year just around the corner, the superintendent of the Northern Cass School District is facing a drunken driving charge. Cory Steiner, 42, of Arthur, N.D., was charged with misdemeanor DUI. He was also cited for speeding, according to court documents.
FARGO – The Richland County State’s Attorney’s Office is reviewing an investigation of alleged “inappropriate activities” with youth by a Catholic priest in the Fargo Diocese for possible criminal charges. Richland County sheriff’s investigator Josh Beto said he finished his investigation of Father Thomas Feltman and forwarded the case to State’s Attorney Ron McBeth.
