The West Fargo Police Department was called to the Frederick “Butch” Fuss home at 321 5th Ave. W., Sunday evening at about 7:45 p.m. after receiving a report of a van running into the home. When officers arrived, they found a 15-year old driver slightly injured, major structural and utility damage to the house, but nobody inside the house was injured.

For the second time in two weeks, West Fargo City Commissioners have said ‘no’ to a request for a conditional use permit that would allow for stockpiling of sand, gravel and fill dirt and other building materials,, in an area south of 7th Avenue Northeast, east of Center Street, with the south side of the property abutting the Burlington Northern Railroad property.

A buddy program between classrooms at Eastwood Elementary School is going a long way in supporting a great facility – the Ronald McDonald House at 1330 18th Ave. S. in Fargo.
Fifth grade students of Joyce Brothen and second grade students of Becky Conyers paired up as ‘buddies’ for the 2007-08 year.

The West Fargo High School Grand March and the West Fargo School Board Candidate Forum will be broadcast on Cable One’s Access Channel 12 on a rotating basis throughout the month of May. The Grand March is scheduled to play Wednesday through Sunday, May 7-11. The Candidate Forum ran earlier in the week, and will resume again beginning on May 12. All replays begin at 1 p.m., 4 p.m., 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.

The intent is for you to fill them with non-perishable food items and then set them out by your mailbox for the 16th Annual Food Drive being promoted Saturday, May 10, by the National Association of Letter Carriers in more than 10,000 cities and towns across the United States.

Sixth grade students at Cheney Middle School stole the show during a Safety Lyceum held on Friday, May 2, in the school’s theater. Students put together songs, skits, videos, cheers, and raps to promote safety while skateboarding, bicycling, boating, driving, or engaging in recreational sports.

The Fargo-Moorhead Family YMCA is encouraging families and friends to honor the women in their lives by attending the inaugural Fargo-Moorhead Breast Cancer Walk on Sunday, May 11. Registration for the event will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the west parking lot of the Downtown YMCA, 400 1st Ave. S., with a three-mile walk through downtown Fargo and Moorhead starting at 2 p.m.

Kum & Go, one of the nation’s leading convenience store chains, has announced that it has retained The Energy Exchange of Chicago to coordinate a sealed bid auction of 21 Kum & Go stores. The sealed bid auction will include the West Fargo store located at 1201 9th St. E. In all, the auction will include 12 locations in Iowa, three in South Dakota, two in North Dakota, along with one store in the states of Missouri, Montana, Nebraska and Wyoming.

The West Fargo 2008 Arbor Day celebration will take place this Monday, May 12, at 1 p.m. at Maplewood Park, Maple Lane and 17th Avenue East, with this year’s tree planted in honor of veterans from West Fargo and all over the U.S. This annual event is sponsored by the West Fargo Urban Forestry Committee.

Students in Harwood and Horace elementary schools have been learning archery skills during physical education classes this spring. Each of the two schools recently acquired archery kits, including 12 compound bows, five targets, five dozen arrows, a safety net, and an equipment repair kit. The purchase of the archery equipment was made possible through a series of grants.

Talk regarding West Fargo’s Main Avenue reconstruction has been going on for what seems like an eternity. Actually, it’s been about a decade, in fact at the start of Mayor Rich Mattern’s term in 2002, he cited it as a priority issue.
