Western bank counsel receives alumni award

Michelle Kommer was recently honored as a recipient of the 2014 Distinguished Alumni Award from May-ville State University.

The award is presented to a Mayville State alumni member who has been a proven lead-er in their field for over 10 years.

Kommer is the chief administrative officer/general counsel at Western State Bank.

She leads the human resource, information technology, legal and loan/deposit operations functions for the company.

She previously served in executive leadership positions at Noridian/BlueCross Blue Shield of North Dakota and Otter Tail Corp. as the senior vice president of human resources, responsible for all human resources and leadership development functions.

Kommer has been a passionate advocate for child welfare in North Dakota, as a foster and adoptive parent, and in founding the North Dakota Heart Gallery in 2006.

She serves on the board of directors for Churches United for the Homeless and Fraser, Ltd.

Reith promoted at Bank Forward

Chad Rieth has been promoted to chief financial officer for Bank Forward. Rieth joined Bank Forward as vice president of finance in 2007 and has more than 20 years of experience in the financial industry. He is a graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead.

As CFO, Rieth will provide financial leadership and strategy, ensure compliance with financial regulations and oversee financial operations for Bank Forward, Insure Forward, Tax Forward and Invest Forward, as well as Security State Bank of North Dakota Holding Co.

Rieth is active in several organizations, including the West Fargo Exchange Club and Junior Achievement. Rieth and his wife, Dana, have two children and live in Fargo. In his spare time, he enjoys golf, hunting and fishing.
