Financial Literacy Program sponsered by local programs

Only 32% of American parents talk to their teens regularly about personal finance. To help give parents the gift of financial preparedness, the NDSU College of Business Legacy Program and Choice Financial teamed up to sponsor Money Matter$.

The inaugural Money Matter$ financial literacy event was held on Nov. 17 at NDSU's Richard Barry Hall, where more than 20 high school students spent half a day with the Legacy Program team learn to how to manage their money, monitor spending, obtain 'credit' and how to protect it, and the importance of saving at an early age.

Future sessions will be offered throughout the coming year to reach out to additional students. "Financial Literacy is a topic we take very seriously. Partnering with the Business Legacy Program allows students to understand the importance of saving on a peer-to-peer basis," stated Erv Inniger, Director of Community Relations at Choice Financial.

In future sessions, the goal is to reach more parents and educators about the important role they play in getting students to take ownership in learning the benefits of of managing their money early in life.
