A lovely courtyard garden graces Faith Lutheran

07/24/2008 12:00 AM
I recently visited with Pastor Schmidt from Faith Lutheran Church regarding their lovely courtyard garden. When the educational unit was built in 1960, a courtyard formed between the old church and the new section. Pastor Schmidt and church members wondered what to do with this space. A few years ago, they received a generous donation from a member and the congregation decided to use this fund for a garden.

To watch this curly-haired little boy playing and giggling, one would never know what was dangerously growing inside his tummy. In a matter of weeks, a softball-sized cancerous tumor had developed around 2-year-old Shaunn Wieser’s kidney. In what doctor’s estimate was barely a month, the Wilms tumor completely took over without causing any discomfort to Shaunn.

Summer Theater to stage special performances

07/10/2008 12:00 AM
The West Fargo Parks and Recreation Summer Theater Program is presenting their upcoming performances this summer. “Tales of Hans Christian Andersen” (age 9-11 students) is an assortment of surprise packages that brings four very special gifts…the gifts of storyteller Hans Christian Andersen to the children of the world. Out of a bright birthday box steps “The Steadfast Tin Soldier” to tell of his undying love for a paper dancing doll. A dilapidated old crate yields the comic tale of “The Swineherd” who spurns a royal princess, and from a basket of eggs comes the well-loved story of “The Ugly Duckling.” The quartet of tales concludes with the touching romance of “The Little Mermaid” who loves a human being…the story discovered in an ancient sea chest.

The rascally rabbits are driving me to distraction. It is bad enough that they regard my gardens as their own private buffet restaurant. On top of that, they love to dart out from shrubbery when I am in the area and give me a scare. They come in all sizes, large momma’s and poppa’s, juniors, and little baby bunnies. The neighborhood has several sheds that provide them with cool basement apartments.
