Aug. 15, 1940-March 30, 2009
Former Ponsford resident Alberta M. Johnson, 70, of Detroit Lakes, died Monday, March 30, 2009 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes.
Alberta Mae Jones was born to Thomas Sr. and Vivian (Fineday) Jones on Aug. 15, 1940 in White Earth. She attended Pine Point Elementary School and graduated from Park Rapids High School in 1959. She later went to Albuquerque, N.M., to attend nursing school, before moving back to the Rochert area. For several years she worked as a nurse's aide at St. Mary's Hospital in Detroit Lakes.
Alberta later moved to the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, where she continued to work as a nurse's aide and also did light paperwork for a few businesses. In 1999 she became ill and moved back home to be near her family.
In July 2001, Alberta became a resident at Emmanuel Nursing Home, where she was able to enjoy her crossword puzzles, reading novels, and watching her daily soap operas. She was well known for keeping her house "clean as a whistle" and for her cooking; especially her soups.
Alberta will be missed by those who survive her, including her two daughters, Nicole Jones of St. Paul and Janelle Johnson of Ponsford; six grandchildren; one great grandchild; and two sisters, Naomi Jones and Juanita Hardy, both of Ponsford.
Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. on Friday, April 3, continuing until the start of funeral services at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 4, in the Old Pine Point School in Ponsford. Burial will be in Breck Memorial Episcopal Cemetery in Ponsford.
