A special press conference announcing the promotion was held at the Fargo Applebee's on 45th Street Friday, Oct. 29, attended by Applebee officials Abe Sakak, Chief Operating Officer, and Annette Schilling, marketing director; as well as a variety of local military representatives including West Fargo VFW Post 7564 Post and Auxiliary members and employees of the Fargo Veterans Administration Center, Dale Ronning, Department Service Officer, Joy Mikyska, Claims Representative, and Russel Foster, AMVETS Service Officer.

The program has met with excellent response by the veterans who are appreciative of the gesture. Last year, Applebee's served more than one million military men and women and they expect those numbers to be even higher this year. The company's appreciation efforts last year were the largest of its kind to give back to the communities where Applebee's restaurants are located nationwide.

Ronning said local veterans are grateful for the consideration and are looking forward to their visit to the restaurant. "This is a tremendous gesture on the part of Applebee's to recognize the veteran. As you are aware, only .7 percent (less than one percent) of the U.S. population serves in the military today That is a small number who sacrifice so much."

Sakak said he is proud to be a part of this special event that salutes those who serve and are serving the country, adding Applebee's is looking forward to hosting them again this year.

Applebee's new Veterans Day menu will offer some of its signature and favorite items, including the 7 oz. house sirloin, bacon cheeseburger, three cheese chicken penne, chicken tenders platter, oriental chicken salad, fiesta lime chicken, and double crunch shrimp.

Veterans and active duty military will need to provide proof of service, which includes a U.S. Uniform Services Identification Card, U.S. Uniform Services Retired Identification Card, Current Leave and Earnings Statement, Veterans Organization Card, photograph in uniform or wearing uniform, DD214, Citation or Commendation.

All neighborhood Applebee's will be open from 10:30 a.m. to midnight on Veterans Day to accommodate guests.
