Police identified the man as Lawrence Vincent St. John Jr.

Authorities were called to a medical assist at 1121 14th Ave. E., in West Fargo about 11:40 p.m. Monday, according to a police report on the incident.

Officers found a 4-month-old baby boy with labored breathing and the child was taken to Innovis Hospital by ambulance.

The child was later flown to a hospital in Minneapolis after it was determined the baby's trachea was partially crushed, according to Det. Sgt. Greg Warren.

He said police did not have a condition available for the child this morning.

St. John was arrested Tuesday after investigators interviewed St. John and several other people who were at the residence where the baby was found, Warren said.

St. John has been charged with one count of child abuse, a Class B felony, according to Warren.
